Theater: Recipients of The 79th Theatre World Awards



Here are recipients of 2025’s Theatre World Awards, which honors actors making Outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway debuts. I am honored to have been on this committee again this year. 


Congrats to all the winners. The awards will be handed out on Monday, June 2 at 7pm at The Hard Rock Café Times Square.

The Dorothy Loudon Award for Excellence in the Theater, honoring an outstanding performance (not debut) in a Broadway or Off-Broadway production, to Shailene Woodley (Cult of Love).  


LESLIE UGGAMS

John Willis Award

Jelly's Last Jam (c) Joan Marcus


The John Willis Award, given for lifetime achievement in the theatre, to Leslie Uggams (last seen in Encores' Jelly's Last Jam).  The latter honors the late Willis, who created and maintained the Theatre World tradition for 66 years, encouraging new talent in an often-challenging business. 


GEORGE CLOONEY
GOODNIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK

Good Night, and Good Luck (c) Emilio Madrid


George Clooney, who made his debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, will also be honored with the 2025 TWA Special Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut as Performer and Playwright.  Good Night, and Good Luck is written by Clooney and Grant Heslov. 


This year's honorees were chosen by the Theatre World Awards Committee: Linda Armstrong (Amsterdam News), David Cote (The Observer), Joe Dziemianowicz (New York Theatre Guide), Peter Filichia (Broadway Radio), David Finkle (New York Stage Review), Elysa Gardner (The New York Sun), Harry Haun (Observer.com), Cary Wong (The Interested Bystander), and Frank Scheck (New York Stage Review/The Hollywood Reporter).
